Urban Scout Black Walnut Belt Drive

In the Spring / Summer of 2019 we raffled a custom black walnut Urban Scout to support The Foundy, a nonprofit organization in Buffalo focused on small business incubation and youth and community education.

The wood all came from one tree which had fallen on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin house property in Buffalo. The wood was generously donated by the Martin House Foundation to The Foundry, and I was fortunate to use some of it to build this bike.

The winner of the bike decided to upgrade components for a Shimano Alfine 8 internally geared hub.  We paired this with a Gates Belt Drive, making this one of the smoothest riding Urban Scouts we’ve put together.
