What is the ride like?

Are the frames strong?

Normal Bicycles frames are engineered specifically to take advantage of the inherent strength in wood.  The frames have been impact-tested to the ISO 4210-6 standard.  Watch a video of the frame being impacted here!

What type of wood is used?

We currently use hard maple sourced in the Northeastern USA.  We select sources that are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified to the extent available.  There are a few species of wood, including hard maple, ash and black walnut, that lend themselves well to bicycle frames because of the right combination Read more…

How long does it take to build a bicycle?

For production models, our process allows us to build a bicycle in approximately 2-3 weeks.  This may vary with production volumes and batch processing but we are committed to being transparent about what to expect.  For custom orders, we will provide an estimate after confirmation of the design specifications.

How much does a bike weigh?

While the NB construction gives a solid first impression, the tubes are hollow and the bikes are surprisingly light weight (well, we’re not surprised!).  These bikes are comparable to a regular aluminum bike.
